Whiteford Music Festival, 16-18 July 2010
Set in scenic parkland near Stoke Climsland, the Whiteford Music Festival is a vibrant independent three-day music festival in July (16th-18th), bringing together some of the best musical talent in East Cornwall and West Devon.
Now in its 10th year, the annual charity funfest begins with a Summer Swing on the Friday evening with a selection of the very best in big band music from the 1930s to the present day, featuring Bobby Kemp and his band. Top UK vocalist Bobby is a truly International performer with all the big numbers from Frank and friends, coupled with that swingin' sound, rediscovered for a new generation by artists like Robbie Williams and Michael Buble. You'll find all your favourites - Sinatra, Nelson Riddle and Count Basie - but Bobby likes to mix it up too, with selected hits from the rest of the gang, all performed with the style and panache of the original era. Let's hear it for Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and, of course, Tony Bennett!
Saturday sees a spectacular Proms on the Lawn evening around the theme of 'Best of British'. We are delighted to welcome back the Radio Light Orchestra, under the baton of Barrie Mills who will be joined by Internationally renowned Baritone soloist Darren Jeffery and the sensational St. Joseph's Choir. Also performing is the band of the Kernow Pipes & Drums. So come along, relax to the popular classics, warm up your voice to tunes straight from the West End and join in the favourites of all promenaders, including Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Rule Britannia. The evening will climax in a fantastic firework finale to 'Battle of Trafalgar' - a dramatic end to a truly memorable evening!
Family fun is the order of the day on Sunday. The Family Chill Out provides the perfect opportunity to lie back and relax while the children have fun. Come along and hear a selection of original and cover songs from some of the South West's best talent, whilst your children enjoy learning circus skills with a professional entertainer. Amongst our performers we are delighted to welcome back Mad Dog McRea. Supporting them this year will be AWOL & Just Plain Myrtle.
And did we mention Family Chill Out is free for the under 11s?
