an employment and volunteer fair,
in the Gunnislake village hall,
on Saturday Sept 20, from 10am to 2pm.

Drawn to the Valley - Open Studios 30th August to 7th September 2008

The Drawn to the Valley project brings together artists from across the Tamar Valley area. Our aims are to promote art within the area for the benefit of both the public and the artists by putting on a series of exhibitions and an Open Studios event. It is hoped that the project will help contribute to the wider regeneration of the local economy and to the promotion of the Tamar Valley as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the World Heritage Site.

Youth Services Training in Gunnislake

A Basic initial course into Youth work.

An introduction into Youth work, Teenage issues and How to run a youth club.

The course starts on the 8th of November 2007 at 7pm to 9pm at Gunnislake Village hall.

Following their recent successful workshops, Westden will be running two more groups of interactive local food workshops for young people aged 14 to 19. These will be held at the Delaware School, Gunnislake (8th, 22nd & 29th November 2007) and the Pavilions, Princetown (12th & 19th October & 26th November 2007).

OASIS CENTER TO CLOSE

The Oasis Centre, Gunnislake, is facing closure within three months, following failure to gain new funding for its core services.

The Oasis Centre tackles problems of rural disadvantage by providing support, advice and training to people of all ages. It acts as a base for external organisations to bring their services to the community. It has an excellent track record for helping people back into work by upgrading their skills and supporting the formation of new businesses. Work in helping the unemployed won it the Cornwall Community Foundation ‘Community Project of the Year’ award last year. For households without a computer it gives access to the internet for job searching and support for compiling and printing CVs. Children and young people use the facilities for doing their homework and the Centre provides a safe and educational environment for them.

Tamar Valley - World Heritage Site

The Tamar Valley is now a World Heritage Site for it's mining landscape. This should mean a boost to business, in particular for any business associated with tourism.

It is estimated that the new status will attract over half a million extra visitors to Devon and Cornwall each year.
