After many years of trying to keep the Oasis Centre open
Calstock Development Trust have not been able to
raise any funds to keep the Oasis Centre open

The Drawn to the Valley project brings together artists from across the Tamar Valley area. Our aims are to promote art within the area for the benefit of both the public and the artists by putting on a series of exhibitions and an Open Studios event. It is hoped that the project will help contribute to the wider regeneration of the local economy and to the promotion of the Tamar Valley as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the World Heritage Site.

Following their recent successful workshops, Westden will be running two more groups of interactive local food workshops for young people aged 14 to 19. These will be held at the Delaware School, Gunnislake (8th, 22nd & 29th November 2007) and the Pavilions, Princetown (12th & 19th October & 26th November 2007).

Help from Parish & District Council for Oasis Centre Gunnislake

Both the Calstock Parish Council and Caradon District Council are assisting the Calstock Development Trust with grants towards the running costs of the Oasis Centre , following failure to gain three year lottery funding for its core services.

Horticultural Enterprise

Calstock Trust has been awarded a grant to carry out a feasibility study into the potential of setting up a horticultural enterprise in the Tamar Valley.

At its height in the 1950s and 1960s the Tamar Valley market gardening industry employed 1,500 people, there are now only about 40 growers left in the Tamar Valley.

The Tamar Valley - a World Heritage Site

The Tamar Valley is now a World Heritage Site for it's mining landscape.

This should mean a boost to business, in particular for any business associated with tourism. It is estimated that the new status will attract over half a million extra visitors to Devon and Cornwall each year.
