Background to CDT
In the early 1990s a group of Calstock business people and residents began meeting to discuss ways of improving the village. A plan was developed to regenerate the Calstock waterfront area and to improve the village hall. Calstock Development Trust was involved in the regeneration proposals particularly in conducting thorough research as to the community’s views on the proposals.
A number of lessons were learned from this intensive consultation, primarily that a big public meeting is not necessarily the best way to canvass objective views.
European money funded major regeneration in Calstock and CDT received substantial sums in grants to cover both consultation and service delivery.
Although initially CDT was purely a Calstock village initiative, later in 1999 after consultation with members it was agreed CDT would become a parish wide organisation.
During 2002 funding was insufficient to employ staff and a small group of Trustees worked hard to keep the Calstock office open, host some ICT training and complete funding applications.
The OASIS Centre opened in Gunnislake in 2003.
